Belgian Shepherds and Schipperkes

Paul's family exhibited Cocker Spaniels for many years and following a brief stint in the late 1970?s and early 1980?s showing and breeding both Cocker Spaniels followed by Rottweilers (photos 1, 2 and 3) he decided to look for something different to show. In 1985 he made contact with Marcelle King (Belamba) having seen photos of Tervueren and appreciating their beauty and versatility. Marcelle became the first of many people who were to give their invaluable help and advice over the years.  With Marcelle's help he acquired a Tervueren bitch CH Foxpits Nothern Dancer (photo 2) who was the first Tervueren to appear in the show ring in Ireland and also the first Irish Champion.  A daughter of Ch Belamba Barley Wine'Dancer' was a sweet natured bitch of the old type, who was looking for a new home at 12 months as her owner was returning to the USA. 'Dancer' quickly made a huge impact on the family and all who came in contact with her and very quickly helped to establish this variety in the Irish show ring where she had much success being appreciated by the All Round Judges for her movement and ring presence.   'Dancer' was very quickly followed by two more Tervueren, a male Ch Belamba Harvey Wallbanger,CH & GB CH Belambe Irish Coffee (photo 4), a Bandol daughter.  'Harvey Wallbanger', a wonderfl Ambassador for the breed in the early days in Ireland, won numerous Working Groups, a Reserve Best in Show and also a Reserve CC in the UK before his sudden unexpected death while still in his prime.  'Irish Coffee' was a very feminine bitch born in 1987, she was to be the first Belgian Shepherd to gain her titles on both sides of the Irish Sea and gave us the enthusiasm and motivation to compete extensively in the UK.

In late 1988 Paul met Jean, who experienced her first dog show a few weeks later when she handled 'Harvey Wallbanger' (photo 1), winning the Major Green Star and Best of Breed with him at the Irish Kennel Club St. Patrick's Show.  From then on she was thoroughly hooked and so we decided to expand into variety.

We were married in September, 1989 and a few weeks later acquired our first Groenendael, a beautiful bitch puppy CH & GB CH Vanistica Georgio (photo 2), a daughter of CH Bergerac Love Kills, from Paul and Lorna England (Vanistica).  We decided to 'go for it' and campaign our dogs in the UK. Our first CC came at Scottish Kennel Club 1990 with 'Irish Coffee' and on the same day 'Giorgio' won the first day of the Puppy Stakes, finishing 2nd overall.  'Irish Coffee' and 'Giorgio' very quickly gained their Irish and UK Champion titles, 'Giorgio's typical sound movement being her trade-mark.  She was also an Irish Pup of the Year Qualifier.
By this time we had bred our first Tervueren litter, 'Northern Dancer' mated to 'Harvey Wallbanger' producing the 'A' litter of which there were numerous Green Star Winners.  Revloch Amaranth went to Debbie Flemming of Ailort in Scotland where she won two Reserve CC's and when mated to the Groenendael 'Leircote Agnar' produced 'GB CH Ailort Black Adder', who in turn is the sire of 'GB CH Ailort Dark Adder' and his sister 'GB CH Ailort Dorothea'.  For 'Dancer's' next litter we took her to the UK to 'GB CH Norrevang Bacchus of Belamba and got two puppies, one of which was made up in Ireland, CH Revloch Bella Donna (photo 3.   'Bacchus' was a dog which we had always admired for his temperament and style and so when the opportunity arose in 1990 to acquire a young grey daughter of his from Yvonne Lyons 'Alcyon' kennel, we jumped at it. IR & GB CH Alcyon Reuilly Rose (photo 4) was a striking grey bitch with a very laid back sweet temperament and she very quicly qualified for the Irish Pup of the Year, won Best Puppy in Breed at Working Breeds of Wales on her debut in the UK, and went on to gain both her Irish and GB Titles.

Also in 1990 there were some more additions to the family, one planned and one unexpected.  We acquired a second Groenendael, a male this time, IR & GB CH Vanistica Parisien Moon (left).  'Flynn' was an upstanding male with a fantastic temperament and he would become a prolific winner for us in both Ireland and the UK, winning many Working Groups in Ireland and Best in Show at the Norbel Club Show in the UK.  'Giorgio's litter sister was coming over to Ireland to Jean's uncle, travelling with 'Parsien Moon' when he came to us at 9 weeks.
'Aza' CH Vanistica Obession (right) was 9 months old at that stage and was to stay with us for the weekend until Jean's uncle was ready to collect her.  However after just two days with us we knew we had found a 'dog in a million'.  While she may not have had her sister's style and prettiness, she had a unique character and quite literally became our 'eldest child'.  We persuaded Jean's uncle to let her stay with us and we had 14 wonderful years with her until she passed away in August 2003.  She was adored by our two children Kelly and Stephen, being like a 'nana' to them.  She made an impact on everyone who knew her, appeared on Live TV with her first litter and didn't do badly in the ring either, gaining her Irish Title and finishing Top Groenendael in 1994.
'Parisien Moon' was mated to both 'Giorgio' and 'Obsession', the C litter to 'Obsession' born in August 1991 produced GB CH Vanistica
Revloch Chimmney Sweep who went back to the England's as a puppy.  He sired many GB Champions including CH Vanistica Cornish Affair who in turn has produced numerous Champions for Vanistica.  The C Litter also produced Revloch Cool Hand Luke, an Irish Pup of the Year 1992 qualifier.  A repeat of this mating in October 1992 produced Revloch Eastern Pharo who at his only show in the UK won a large Junior Class at Crufts.
It was around this time that we brought in a young Tervueren male from Vic and Lynn Salt (Woodlyn) who were to become firm friends and a great source of knowledge and information over the next years.  He was Burnish Bronze of Woodlyn, a GB
CH Lance Van de Hoge Laer son out of GB CH Woodlyn Fascination.  He won the Reserve CC at the BSDA Club Show at 9 months of age and when mated to Belamba Irish Coffee produced the Revloch D litter in July, 1992.  On this litter were Major Green Star winners including Revloch Dig Diswho at his only UK show won Best Puppy in Breed at Scottish Kennel Club in May 1993.  His brother Revloch Desperate Dan was Best of Breed at the Irish Club Speciality in 1994.  A mating between 'Dig Dis' and 'Alcyon Reuilly Rose' in 1993, the F litter, produced CH Revloch First Option (right), Top Belgian Shepherd 1995.
Meanwhile in Groenenael 'Giorgio's' first mating with 'Parisien Moon' produced the G Litter born in January 1995 which included CH Revloch Geisha Girl (3 CACIB's) and Revloch Giselle (2 Res CC's).

An impulse saw the arrival in 1995 of our first Malinois in the shape of CH Lanaeken Savoire Faire (photo 1), born in quarantine from Belgium.  She won numerous Best Puppy and Diploma of Merit Awards in the UK, culminating in a CC win at Blackpool in 1996,  She gained her Irish Title quickly but it was a few years before she was mated.

Towards the end of 1995 we enquired from Vic and Lynn Salt (Woodlyn) about a litter which they had recently bred, sired by their French import Groenendael Grandee De La Douce Plaine out of his kennel mate Goya De La Douce Plaine.  They had two male puppies but the pick of the two was promised to somebody else.  One pup was described as a big boy with a big coat  and we kept our fingers crossed that he would not be the first choice of the other people.  A couple of days later we got the news that they had chosen the other pup and the following weekend we collected 16 week old CH & GB CH Woodly Black Jack at Revloch (photo 2).  The rest, as they say, is history! and over the next few years we embarked on a remarkable journey with many happy memories with this beautiful boy.
Black Jack grew up to be an extremely handsome male with the most beautiful eye and expression, a dog who carried a big coat and mane, he still oozed style and glamour even in his veteran years.  He won his first Major Green Star at his debut show at the IKC St. Patrick's show in March 1996 at only 9 months.  At Crufts, 1997 he won the Res CC and Diploma of Merit (Best Groenendael Male) from Special Yearling.  This was to be the start of a spectacular show career in the UK, competing  against the other three varieties for much of it.  His first CC was won at Working Breeds of Wales in 1997 under the late Di Atkinson and he added 19 more CC's, 8 Res CC's, 4 CACIB's and countless Diploma of Merit Awards over the next 5 years.  He is Ireland's Top Winning Groenendael all time, with multiple Group Wins, Top Groenendael Male UK 1997, Joint Top Groenendael Male UK 1999, Top Groenendael 1998, 2000 and 2001.  Best of Breed at Crufts 2,000, CC & BOB at NORBEL in 2001 and Best in Show at the BSDA Speciality in 2001 and took Top Honours at the 2004 Irish Speciality from Veteran.   He gained a worldwide fan base and enjoyed his retirement having handed over the reins to his offspring who continued his successes.
Our next Tervueren litter was in March, 1996, a mating from 'Alcyon Reuilly Rose'and GB CH Bergerac Intermezzo of Zantal.  Unfortunately there were complications resulting in a cesarean and the near loss of both the mother and sole puppy born, but luckily both survived and the puppy CH Revloch Incognito (photo 3) grew up to be a slow maturing dog, with a very exhuberant and outgoing temperament, the exact opposite to his laid back mum.  He was  shown lightly in the UK but won 2 CC's and a Res CC.  He won 4 CACIB's and Reserve Best in Show at the IKC St. Patrick's Show in 2000 plus many Working Groups in Ireland.
Late in 1996 we bought a Tervueren bitch puppy CH Monamour French Connection at Revloch, a combination of GB CH Domburg Melodie D'Amour with Monamour and Talamo Vedette at Monamour.  She was Top Tervueren Bitch in Ireland, 1997 and an Irish Pup of the Year Qualifier finishing 4th overall on the night of the final.  She had two litters, the first to 'Incognito'  born in December, 1998.  Out of this litter came Revloch Lady Luck of Huron (photo 4) .  Her second litter born February 2000 to Revloch Dig Dis produced Revloch Mr Blue

(photo 5) who was Top Tervueren Ireland 2001 and CH Revloch Millennium Babe (photo 6) who won 4 CACIB's, Top Tervueren Ireland 2002 and Top Bitch 2001 and 2003.

A groenendael litter born in 1997 from a mating between 'Black Jack' and 'Giorgio' produced CH Revloch Jack Daniels of Shelair (photo 1) 2 CC's, 5 Res CC's, but it was in August 2000 when he was mated to CH Zellik Absolutely Fabulous at Revloch (left), a bitch we had acquired a couple of years earlier that produced the quality N Litter.  From the N Litter IR & GB CH Revloch Notorious (photo 2) won his first CC & BOB at the BSDA Speciality in August 2002 and made history the following year at the back to back NORBEL & BSDA Specialities when he won his 2nd & 3rd CC's and also going all the way to Best in Show at both.  Following this came three more UK CC's ending 2003 Joint Top Groenendael in the UK.  He also travelled to the Dutch NVBH Speciality in October, 2003 where he won the Open Class and Res CAC.  He was Best in Show at the Irish Club Specaility in 2001 and was Res Best in Show in 2003.  He was also Dog CC Winner at Crufts in 2004 and Best Veteran In Show at the Irish Specaility in 2009.
'Notorious' litter sister CH Revloch New Edition at Nulikim (photo 3) gained her Champion Title in 2004.  Revloch Norma Jean (photo 4) was a Major Green Star Winner and CH Revloch Nina Ricci (photo 5) won 2 Res CC's in the UK and a Group 2nd in Ireland and was Top Bitch in 2004.  A brother Revloch Nutty Professor (photo 6) won Best Puppy in Breed at Blackpool in 2001 before the sudden untimely end to his show career after breaking a leg.
A repeat of the N Litter, the P Litter, born June, 2002 produced Revloch Pretty Woman (photo 7) who at 9 months won the Major Green Star, Res BOB and Best Puppy in Show at the Irish Speciality in April, 2003.
Unfortunately, after 20 years breeding, we experienced a problem with epilepsy effecting some dogs in the N and P litters (Woodlyn Black Jack at Revloch x Zellik Absolutely Fabulous at Revloch) and we made the decision to take these lines out of breeding. We are not afraid to say that we have the problem and are happy to discuss this health issue freely with breeders who are also willing to discuss it honestly and without prejudice. We hope breeders will always have the courage to reveal any health issues which may be in their lines which will help other breeders and that they will also use any information that they receive about another breeder?s lines positively and not as a means to bash their reputation. Human nature dictates that personal dislikes of other breeders is all too frequent in a hobby that has it's share of back-biting and bad sportsmanship, but we all have one thing in common, that is to breed beautiful, healthy dogs and a little information can go a long way in achieving this. We have always tried to treat our puppy buyers as we would like to be treated. We also hope that our puppy buyers will always appreciate our help and advice as we in turn appreciate the help and advice that we have received from many breeders over the years.

Another Tervueren arrived in May, 2011 when we imported a Milton daughter from Willemine Van Deijl of Di Scottatura in Belgium.  This was CH Zayra di Scottatura at Revloch (photo 1) a petite bitch with a sweet temperament who although lightly shown won Reserve BIS at the Irish Speciality in 2002 and a Res CC in the UK.  She produced a litter for us in May 2003 to CH Revloch Incognito.  CH Revloch Ready to Rumble with Nulikim (photo 2) competes successfully in Agility while CH Revloch Ready Teddy Go To Whitandon (photo 3) has been a prolific winner in the show ring since 2004, is a multiple Group, Champion Stakes and Veteran Stakes Winner and is the first BSD to win the Pastoral Group since the breed moved from the Working Group in 2004.  Nor CH Revloch Rambling Rose photo 4) went to Kennel Woodshine in Norway winning 2 CAC's & BOB's by aged 10 months.
In December 2001 we bred our first Malinois litter, a successful mating between CH Lanaeken Savoire Faire and Bonvivant Cause Celebre at Tiggertoo.  This produced NOR, DAN, NED, LUX, IR, GB CH Revloch O'Baoil (photo 5) who went to Kennel Shirocky in Norway as a puppy but returned to us in November 2005. She has won numerous CAC's/CACIB's in Norway, Denmark, Holland, Luxembourg, Germany and Ireland as well as 9 CC's in the UK.  She was Top Malinois in Denmark in 2003, Top Malinois in Norway in 2005, Top Malinoins in Ireland, 2005, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 and also Top Malinois in the UK 2007, 2009 and 2010 where she is the current Bitch Breed Record Holder on 9 CC's.   Her litter brother IR/GB CH Revloch O'Riagain (4CC's) (photo 6) went to the UK to Dave and Yvonne Brason (Flambards) where at the NORBEL Speciality in May 2002 he won Best Puppy in Show.  He is one of the first Malinois to win a CC since they were granted to Malinois  in the UK.  Another brother Revloch O'Maillie (photo 7), (1 CC) owned by Val Neff in the UK won the Dog CC at Crufts, 2007.  A repeat of this Litter in January, 2003 unfortunately produced just one female puppy Revloch Quest for Fame (photo 8) who at her debut show at 6 months at the Back To Back Specialities in the UK in August 2003, won Best Malinois Puppy At NORBEL and Res Best Puppy in Show at the BSDA.

Back to Groenendaels and in February, 2004 we took Revloch Norma Jean to the handsome SR Urgyen De Lligabosc in Belgium, a dog we had admired a couple of years previously at the Dutch Speciality,   This produced Revloch Sugarbabe (photo 1) who won numerous Green Stars and also NOR CH Revloch Supertramp (photo 2) who went to Kennel Shirocky in Norway

In March, 2005 we celebrated the arrival of our Belgian Import, the Groenendael IR, LUX, NED, GB CH Diego du Pre du Vieux Pont at Revloch (photo 3) a grandson of both Multi CH Milan and Multi CH Boetsch.  He is an elegant dog of excellent type and temperament who has been of great benefit to our gene pool.  He has won Best Puppy Awards in Holland, Belgium, France and Ireland, CAC's and CACIB's in Holland and Ireland, RCC at Crufts and is a multiple Group Winner in Ireland.  He has been Top Stud Dog in the UK for 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013

A Tervueren litter born in January, 2005 produced just three puppies, two of which were shown with great success.  'Zayra' was mated to Revloch Jumanji, a Tervueren son of 'Black Jack' producing the U Litter and at just eighteen months old CH Revloch Unique JUN CH (photo 4) is the youngest BSD to gain the Irish title under the old Green Star system and also qualified from an entry of 85 puppies to compete at the Pup of the Year Final in 2005.  She is also a Group Winner.  Her brother Revloch Undercover at Belsharose (photo 5) was Top Tervueren Puppy in the UK in 2005 and a multiple Puppy Stakes winner.  For 'Zayra's' third litter we mated her to a young dog GER CH Corsini Don Giovani at Protegimus, puppies were born in April, 2006 and Revloch Vialli and Revloch Valentino (photo 6) have both competed successfully in the UK, with 'Vialli' also win Green Stars and a Group in Ireland.

In late September, 2005 a groenendael female IR, GB & LUX CH Xanova Magique Noir avec Revloch (photo 1) arrived from the UK.  A daughter of top producer SR Jason de la Douce Plaine and grandaughter of the outstanding SR FR CH Rival de la Fureur du Crepuscule, 'Voodoo' has had a fantastic show career, the highlight being her CC & BOB win at Crufts in 2007 at only 19 months of age, as wel as BOB at the Amsterdam Winner Show in 2007 and BOB at the Luxembourg International Show in 2008.  A second arrival and also a Jason daughter to join the kennel from Belgium in August, 2007 was CH Duchesse du Pre du Vieux Pont at Revloch (photo 2).

In August, 2009 after receiving permission from the Irish Kennel, the Z litter was born from an inter-variety mating between the Tervueren CH Revloch Ready To Rumble with Nulikim and Groenendael CH Duchesse du Pre du Vieux Pont at Revloch.   This mating produced the outstanding sr, se CH, GB, NED,  LUX, GB CH Revloch Zidane (above).  His show career began in Ireland in February, 2010 at 6 months when he won the Dog GS and BOB under Irish all rounder Vincent O'Brien who remarked on the day that he thought he was something special and predicted he would go far.

Zidane's first CC came in August, 2010 when he won the Dog CC, Res BOB, Res Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show at the BSDA of GB Club Ch Show, under breed specialists Sandra Smith, Lebeau (breed) and Kathy Bird, (BIS).  He finished up Top Puppy in the UK that year and Top Groenendael in Ireland, having won more then the required 7 Green Stars for his Irish Title but this didn't come until after he had reached the age of 15 months in November, 2010.

Over the next three years he amassed a total of 18 CC's (12 with BOB) and 3 Res CC's, including the CC and BOB at Crufts in 2011 and 2012 and the Res CC in 2013, plus CC, BOB and BIS at the NORBEL Club Ch Show in August, 2012 under Jesper Anderssen from Sweden (breed) and Gil Cooper, Zantal (BIS).  He won the Pastoral Group at Belfast Championship Show in 2011 under Jean Lanning  and was Top Groenendael in the UK in 2011 and 2012. Also a multi Group and Champion Stakes winner in Ireland and Top Irish Show Dog qualifier 2011.  His 18th CC (with BOB was won at East of England in July, 2013 under Gordon Rual.

Zidane also gained his Luxembourg and Dutch Champion titles, won the CAC at the Paris International Show in 2012 and at the prestigious French Speciality the following August, he was placed 16th Ex from an entry of 59 dogs in the Open Class, passed the CSAU (Social) and TAN (Gunshot) tests, and was only one of 5 Groenendael males selected SR  (recommended for breeding) the following day.

Zidane has also sired some successful winners.   In a litter born in Norway early last year two were exported to the US and Canada and have become Champions before the age of 9 months. Another one from that litter exported to Portugal was Junior European Winner and placed 2nd BIS Junior in Geneva.  In the UK he is the sire of the young female CH Chrisvale Loving Feeling at Vanisticawho gained her 3rd CC at only 14 months at Bournemouth Ch Show in August, under specialist Jeff Luscott. Another young female Ebontide Vision in Black at  Groenveld has 1 CC and 8 Res CC's and our own youngster Revloch Figo won his 1st CC from puppy at National Working & Pastoral Breeds in July at just 9 months under breed specialist Lyn Salt (Woodlyn) and is currently Top Groenendael Puppy in the UK.

Besides being an outstanding Belgian Shepherd of excellent type with a beautiful head, eye and expression and typical harmonious silhouette, Zidane also had the most wonderful character and made a huge impression on people from all around the world. Those who met him in the flesh were completely won over by his lovely personality and have been firm admirers and supporters of his many successes. He has passed on this outstanding temperament to his puppies.

We had hoped to have Zidane back in the ring for Darlington Ch Show in September 2013 but our world was turned upside when he took ill quite suddenly and unexpectedly and tests revealed he had lymphoma cancer which was aggressive. Despite immediate treatment he failed to respond and the decision was made a few days later on 11th September to spare him from any further suffering.  His passing has left us devastated and in shock.  He had only turned 4 years and was just entering his prime years. We were looking forward to enjoying many more years with him in the ring as he was the ultimate showman and loved the limelight. But aside from the wins and glory, he was just quite simply a much loved companion, a joy to live with, a 'dog in a million'.

We have been overwhelmed by the hundreds of messages, posts and calls of sympathy and support on the news of his passing from his admirers and supporters around the world, we are so proud that he touched so many people and that his legacy lives on in his offspring.  He will never be replaced or forgotten.

Zidane has two litter sisters CH Revloch Zweet JUN CH  and JAP CH/INT CH Revloch Zola.

A second Inter-Variety mating in March 2010 between GB CH Vegas Van Moned at Domburg and MULTI CH Xanova Magique Noir avec Revlochproduced the B litter.  CH, GB, LUX, NED CH, BISS Revloch Bewitched (photo 1) has had a fantastic show career so far, at only 19 months she had gained both her Irish and GB Titles, won CC, BOB, Res Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show at the NORBEL Speciality in June, 2011 at 15 months, is Top Groenendael Bitch in the UK for 2011 and at the Amsterdam Winner show won the CAC, CACIB and Res BOB in 2011 and 2012.
